MONROVIA, Liberia – The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Liberia, in partnership with the Liberian Government, has launched a renewed diplomatic and development push to enhance the growing bilateral relations between the two Countries.
During a media briefing in Monrovia on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Morocco’s Ambassador to Liberia, Lahoucine Rahmouni, outlined a series of initiatives leading to Morocco’s National Day celebrations on May 25, 2026.
He described the effort as both a diplomatic outreach and a concrete contribution to Africa’s broader development agenda.
According to Rahmouni, the program will roll out in multiple phases, engaging policymakers, experts, journalists, and cultural figures.
Water Security Takes Center Stage
A centerpiece of the initiative is a high-level panel discussion on water as Africa’s most strategic resource; a theme aligned with the African Union’s priorities.
Rahmouni stressed that water underpins human survival, environmental health, food production, and economic stability across the continent.
“Water is not only about survival,” he said. “It is about agriculture, irrigation, food security, and ultimately stability.”
The Moroccan diplomat noted that Liberia’s national development goals, particularly in agriculture under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr., are closely tied to effective water management.
While Liberia receives abundant rainfall, he said, the country’s real challenge lies in water storage, irrigation infrastructure, and smart farming techniques that can boost crop yields, exports, and national revenue.
Drawing on Morocco’s own experience, Rahmouni pointed to his country’s long-term investments in dam construction, irrigation technology, and agro-ecological practices, which have transformed agricultural productivity even under harsh climate conditions.
Atlantic Initiative: A Maritime Corridor for Prosperity
Beyond agriculture, the discussions will also highlight Morocco’s Atlantic Initiative, a regional cooperation framework involving Atlantic-facing nations, including Liberia.
Rahmouni described it as a strategic maritime corridor designed to promote:
- Peace and regional stability
- Integrated economic cooperation
- Trade expansion linking Africa with Europe, Asia, and the United States
- Development of ports and transport infrastructure
He warned that recent global disruptions to major shipping routes have exposed Africa’s vulnerability when maritime corridors are interrupted, driving up fuel and electricity costs worldwide.
“The Atlantic maritime space offers Africans an opportunity to secure alternative trade and energy routes,” he explained, adding that stronger Atlantic cooperation could help shield regional economies from global supply shocks.
Morocco Offers Agricultural Expertise and Training
Rahmouni reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting Liberia through technical cooperation, training programs, and knowledge exchange. He disclosed that Morocco continues to provide African partners with:
- Agricultural training and study visits
- Fertilizer support programs
- Irrigation and water management expertise
- Capacity building for government institutions
Recalling past cooperation frameworks between the two countries, Rahmouni expressed optimism that new engagements would transform diplomatic goodwill into agricultural projects that create jobs and generate wealth.
“We see Liberia becoming a strong agricultural country,” he said. “Partnership, technology transfer, and sustained cooperation are the pathways to achieving that vision.”
Culture and Entertainment Join Diplomatic Engagement
Complementing the policy discussions, Morocco’s National Day celebration, scheduled for May 25 at the Moroccan Residence in Sinkor, will showcase cultural diplomacy through music, dance, and artistic exchange.
Liberia’s newly appointed Entertainment Ambassador, Korte Dorbor Bazzie, popularly known as Kobazzie, welcomed the collaboration, calling it a historic opportunity for creatives to take part in diplomacy and international cooperation.
Kobazzie said the initiative marks a new era in which entertainers contribute to national development and cultural diplomacy.
“This is about unity,” he stated. “It creates opportunities for Liberian creators to experience Moroccan culture while sharing Liberia’s artistic identity with the world.”
He added that his office aims to build long-term partnerships with diplomatic missions to expand opportunities for Liberia’s creative industry.
A New Momentum in Morocco–Liberia Relations
Officials say the planned activities symbolize a broader strengthening of Morocco–Liberia ties, blending diplomacy, development cooperation, economic dialogue, and cultural exchange.
By linking water governance, agricultural modernization, maritime connectivity, and creative collaboration, the Moroccan Embassy hopes to contribute to continent-wide discussions on sustainable growth while deepening its bilateral partnership with Liberia.
The initiative is intended not merely as a celebration but as a platform for shared African solutions, driven by partnership, expertise, and unity.
