The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken enforcement action against China Union Mining Company over water pollution in Bong County.

EPA Executive Director Emmanuel Yarpkawolo said,” Investigations confirmed the discharge of untreated wastewater into the environment, affecting community water sources”.

He noted that the EPA has ordered the company to stop the discharge, install proper waste treatment systems, and provide safe drinking water to affected communities.

The EPA boss added that approval for underground mining operations has been withheld until full compliance is achieved.

The Environmental Protection Agency says it remains committed to ensuring that communities are protected from environmental hazards caused by industrial activities.
