MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has submitted a proposed forty-five million U.S dollars Supplementary Budget to the National Legislature.
The proposed budget will now increase the current budget from one-point-two billion to one-point two-four-nine billion by December, 2026.
President Boakai said,” The request is in line with the Public Financial Management Law, which mandates legislative approval when additional revenues are identified”.
According to President Boakai, the additional funding will be spent across key sectors of the Liberian Government, including public administration, health, and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has mandated its committee on Ways, Means, Finance, and Public Accounts to scrutinize and report to plenaries within the stipulated time.
At the same time, Grand Bassa County District One Representative, Issac Bannie, has written a bill seeking to amend and repeal the educational requirement for citizens wishing to join the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
Representative Bannie wants the House of Representatives to amend Section 7.2 of the new Defense Act of 2008, which mandates that citizens wishing to join the army must possess not less than a 7th Grade education.
He believes that the current educational requirement is serving as an impediment for thousands of Liberians craving to join the force.
The Grand Bassa County Lawmaker said,” Once the Section is amended, it will expand manpower capacity and strengthen the army”.
Representative Bannie said,” The current recruitment criteria must align with current national realities, while preserving professionalism, discipline, and adherence to human rights standards”.
