MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) and the World Bank have broken ground for the construction of the National Fisheries Complex on Bushrod Island.
The complex will serve as an administrative and operational nerve center that will oversee, support, and guide the growth of the fisheries industry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Liberia’s Ambassador-at-Large, Charles Snettter, says the government is committed to ensuring that ministries and agencies gradually transition from rental facilities to permanent infrastructure.
Ambassador Snetter said,” The move will promote operational consistency, reduce long-term cost, and enhance institutional stability”.
He added that the fisheries complex represents progress, stability, and a forward-looking vision of the government to enhance service delivery in the Fisheries Sector.
The Liberian Ambassador noted that the initiative aligns with the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), which prioritizes institutional strengthening and sustainable economic growth.
Ambassador Snetter made the statement on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, on behalf of President Joseph Boakai at the groundbreaking ceremony of NaFAA’s Fisheries Complex on Bushrod Island.
Also speaking, NaFAA’s Director General, Cyrus Saygbe, says the initiative represents a powerful symbol of national pride and resilience.
He noted that the milestone reflects the collective determination to harness natural wealth responsibly and sustainably for the benefit of present and future generations.
The NaFAA Director General extends gratitude to the World Bank for the tangible and impactful investment in Liberia’s future.
