MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Vice President Jeremiah Koung has launched the Grand Gedeh University One Million Educational Endowment Fund in Monrovia.
The project aims to support the operations and advancement of the tertiary institution in that part of the country.
Launching the project on behalf of VP Koung recently, Mac-Domald Metgzer, Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the Vice President, described the initiative as a rise of opportunity and a beacon of hope for all Grand Gedeans.
According to him, the move by the University demonstrates a sense of commitment and dedication to taking practical steps to advance quality education across the country.
He lauded the administration of the Grand Gedeh University for the impactful project that aims to support and nurture the next batch of leaders.
Metzger, on behalf of the Vice President, pledged to construct a modern Student Center at the University, a space that will foster learning, innovation, and collaboration.
Meanwhile, the President of the Grand Gedeh University says the project is designed to provide an immediate financial solution to the University.
Dr. Eric Gbotoe believes that the fund, when collected, will bridge the gap in hiring qualified lecturers, building the capacity of students and staff, as well as improving the infrastructure of the institution.
At the launch on Monday, April 6, 2026, in Monrovia, Dr. Gbotoe emphasized that having a sustainable endowment fund in place will strengthen institutional resilience and reduce the University’s dependency on the national budget.
He said,” The University has, over the years, served as a critical medium of expanding access to higher education for citizens, particularly in underserved regions”.
Dr. Gbotoe noted that investment in higher education remains a catalyst for strengthening democratic governance, economic change, and national stability.
The Grand Gedeh University President then urged citizens of the county, the Liberian government, and stakeholders to support the progress of the university.
