Gov’t of Liberia Takes Control of Liberia-Guinea Border Situation

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has taken charge of the situation unfolding along the Liberia-Guinea border, and is actively engaging the matter through established diplomatic channels.

The government said in a statement that such an effort is to ensure that tensions along the border are addressed peacefully and in the spirit of good neighbourliness that has long characterised relations between the two sisterly nations.

The statement from the information ministry says the government is working in close coordination with the relevant national and local institutions to prevent any escalations and to promote dialogue aimed at resolving any concerns arising along the border.

As part of these efforts, the statement noted that President Joseph Boakai has, over the past few days, dispatched a high-level inter-ministerial delegation to the border with Guinea comprising the Ministries of Defence, Local Government, Foreign Affairs, and Justice.

The discussions focused on addressing the current situation at the border, strengthening cooperation between local authorities on both sides, and ensuring that peace and stability are maintained for the benefit of citizens residing in border communities.

Meanwhile, the government urges citizens, particularly those in border communities, to remain law-abiding and to rely only on verified information from official government sources.
