MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has clarified the issuance of clearance to individuals, following thorough investigations for alleged acts of corruption.
LACC Executive Chairperson, Cllr. Alexander Zoe said,” The issuance of clearance is a standard administrative practice undertaken by the LACC, following the conclusion of an investigation where no evidence is found to establish any wrongdoing”.
Cllr. Zoe added that in keeping with the principles of fairness, transparency, and due process, the Commission formally communicates the outcome of such investigations to the individual concerned.
She noted that the recent clearances were granted to several individuals, both former and current officials of the government, who were investigated, and the findings did not warrant prosecution or further action.
The LACC Chairperson added that the mischaracterization that the issuance of clearances is intended to benefit a single individual is inaccurate and does not reflect the facts surrounding the Commission’s actions.
At the same time, the LACC says the clearance recently issued to Margibi County Senator Nathaniel McGill does not suggest that there was no payroll padding at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs under his leadership.
LACC Chairperson, Cllr. Alexandra Zoe admitted that there was payroll padding of seven hundred thirty-one individuals, but there is no documentary evidence linking the former minister directly to authorizing the payment of anyone on such payroll.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Congo Town, Cllr. Zoe said,” The LACC’s investigation established that senior government officials, including the Deputy Minister for Administration, Comptroller, and Human Resource Personnel, signed documents authorizing the payment of the seven hundred thirty-one individuals.
The LACC called on the public to make available any documentary evidence linking Senator McGill to authorizing the payment of those individuals in the payroll padding case.
The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, however, clarified that the clearance issued to Senator Nathaniel McGill is not in connection with his recent sanction by the U.S Government.
