MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon, has introduced a bill in the Liberian Senate to establish a specialized Claims Court.
The proposed legislation, titled “An Act to Establish the Claims Court of Liberia,” is designed to create a dedicated legal framework for resolving disputes involving claims, compensation, restitution, and state liability.
According to a communication accompanying the bill, Senator Dillon says the measure seeks to give practical effect to constitutional guarantees concerning property rights, due process, and access to justice.
The senator argued that under the current legal structure, individuals and businesses face considerable obstacles when pursuing claims against the government, particularly in cases involving wrongful acts or breaches of contract.
If enacted, the new court would represent Liberia’s first comprehensive statutory regime dedicated to holding the state accountable and managing claims for compensation and restitution.
Senator Dillon emphasized that the bill aims to streamline the process for citizens seeking redress, ensuring that justice is not only accessible but also efficiently administered in matters involving the state.
