House of Rep. Summons Top Nat’l Security Officials…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has summoned top National Security officials to provide clarity on media reports concerning the operations of the National Fula Security of Liberia.

Those cited are the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Oswald Tweh and heads of the National Security Agency (NSA), and the Liberia National Police.

Recently, a video emerged on social media in which a group of men believed to be Fulanis were seen training in a bid to protect the community.

The House believes that such a display has serious security implications and has raised questions concerning its operations, authorization, and status as a group.

According to the lawmakers, the citation of the Heads of the security agencies and the Justice Minister will allay fear amid mounting speculations in the public.

The lawmakers argued that matters of national security require immediate clarity to ensure the safety and protection of all.

Earlier, the Ministry of Justice placed an immediate halt on the training and operations of the Fula Security of Liberia pending further investigation.

At the same time, members of the House have voted to pass into law an act to establish the Juarzon Vocational and Technical Institute in District ONE, Sinoe County.

The endorsement followed a joint report from the House’s Committees on Education, Public Administration, Ways and Means, Finance, and Judiciary.

The draft legislation was submitted by Sinoe County District Three Representative, Alex Noah, who believes that the creation of a TVET center in the area will harness the skills of young people.

Representative Noah said,” he proposed institution will enhance skills development, promote employment opportunities, and strengthen human capacity-building for youths and citizens”.

The instrument has been forwarded to the Liberian Senate for passage.
