MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has concurred with the House of Representatives on the passage of the Third Amendment of the Arcelor Mittal Mineral Development Agreement.
It followed a report from the Senate Joint Committee on Land, Mines, Concession and Investment, Judiciary, Ways and Means, Finance and Budget on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The Chairman of the Joint Committee, Simeon Taylor, pleaded with Plenary to concur because major Improvements were made in the MDA, as compared to the previous agreements.
Senator Taylor named improvement in infrastructure development, social development funds, and road pavement as major developments achieved during the negotiation with the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Concession.
The Grand Cape Mount County Senator added that the passage of the Mineral Development Agreement will empower more Liberians through job creation.
Meanwhile, President Joseph Boakai has welcomed the passage of the ArcelorMittal Liberia Concession Agreement.
An Executive Mansion release said the President described the passage as a major milestone, following years of negotiations and constructive engagement.
In the release, President Boakai underscored the contributions of the company to Liberia’s socio-economic growth through the creation of jobs for hundreds of citizens.
The Liberian Leader emphasized that the amended agreement will unlock major expansion and operations of the company by increasing production capacity to fifteen million metric tons.
He noted that the Third Amendment will also provide a substantial boost to the country’s economy through increased employment opportunities, enhanced revenue generation, and strengthened growth in host communities.
The President described the passage of the amendment as a demonstration of the Government of Liberia’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for responsible and sustainable investment.
