MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has issued a fourteen-day evacuation notice to occupants of Camp Regrow, commonly known as the 72nd Barracks in Paynesville City.
It is in continuation of efforts to reclaim military barracks occupied by non-military personnel across the country,
Speaking to ELBC during a tour of the facility on Monday, January 19, 2026, Brigadier General Theophilus Dana said,” The move is intended to allow for the renovation of the barracks for military use”.
He maintained that, once renovated, AFL personnel will occupy the facility, a measure expected to reduce overcrowding at the Edward Beyen Kesselly Barracks in Schieffelin.
Brigadier General Dana also highlighted the importance of the facility, especially at a time when the AFL is conducting recruitment to increase the strength of servicemen.
In another development, the Ministry of National Defense, over the weekend, launched its five-year strategic plan to serve as its road map for transformation from 2026 to 2030.
Giving an overview of the framework at the Ministry of National Defense over the weekend, Assistant Defense Minister for Planning, Policy, and Operations, Allen Charleson, said,” The plan focuses on institutional governance, operational readiness, human capital development, civil-military relations, and strategic partnerships, among others”.
The Plan, according to the Assistant Minister, aligns with national development priorities and regional and international security frameworks.
Launching the framework on behalf of President Joseph Boakai, Retired Major General Daniel Dee Ziankahn, Military Advisor to the President, commended the leadership of the Ministry of National Defense and the AFL for a job well done.
He emphasized that the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan would require strong collaboration from security institutions and support from the National Legislature.
