MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Agriculture has disclosed plans to begin tightening its screws on all imports relating to the Agriculture Sector.
Deputy Agriculture Minister for Technical Services, Solomon Hedd-Williams, said,” There have been several cracks within the system that have led the ministry to fall short on its statutory responsibilities”.
Speaking to ELBC on Sunday, December 28, 2025, in Paynesville City, Minister Hedd-Williams emphasized that all Agro Chemical companies operating in Liberia must register and be licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
He said,” The campaign will also consider supermarkets, hotels, and agriculture concession companies, among others”.
Minister Hedd-Williams, however, observed that some institutions are operating without a license and called for such institutions to be made to account for their wrongdoing.
At the same time, farmers under the Gbedin Agro Business Incorporated in Nimba County are praising the Government of Liberia for making significant progress in their lives.
The Gbedin Agro Business Incorporated is a conglomeration of over one hundred farmers involved in the cultivation of lowland rice in Gbedin Camp Three, in Nimba County.
Speaking to ELBC Correspondent recently, the Chief Executive Officer of the farming group, Sam Brown, said,” The Ministry of Agriculture has helped in improving their productivity.
Brown asserted that the donation of rice harvesters, tractors, and other agricultural equipment has eased the burden they once faced.
He said,” The government, along with farmers, is exerting efforts to take Liberia back to its pre-war status of food self-sufficiency”.
The Chief Executive, Sam Brown, at the same time, wants the Ministry of Agriculture to work closely with rice processors across the country to ensure stability in the price of rice.
