MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has disclosed plans to conduct a comprehensive review of all concession agreements.
The disclosure was made over the weekend by President Joseph Boakai in Gbarnga, Bong County, at the close of a two-day National Assembly of Chiefs and Governors.
President Boakai said,” A comprehensive review of all concession agreements will determine if they reflect the will and aspirations of those in concession areas”.
The Liberian Leader noted that the revision process will take into consideration critical issues that are vital to moving the country forward.
President Boakai was reacting to concerns raised by several traditional elders at the First National Assembly of Chiefs and Governors on the benefits concession companies owe to Liberia and its citizens.
The Liberian Leader lauded the elders for the concerns raised, and reaffirmed the Government of Liberia’s commitment to addressing issues that affect the overall well-being of the people.
Meanwhile, President Boakai said the government remains keen on restoring dignity to traditional elders and chiefs across the country.
He said,” Traditional elders and chiefs have, over the years, played a crucial role in the preservation of Liberia’s culture and peace”.
The Liberian Leader also called on the traditional leaders to buttress the government’s efforts in the fight against illicit drugs and other harmful activities across the country.
According to him, Liberia’s growth and safety must remain the top priority of all Liberians, irrespective of religious or political differences.
