42,000 Additional Mpox Doses Arrive in Liberia, Health Authorities Say

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Health Authorities have disclosed the arrival of over forty-two thousand additional doses of the Mpox Vaccine.

According to the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) and the Ministry of Health, the vaccines were donated by a consortium of health organizations.

The group comprises the United States Centers for Disease Control, the Africa-Center for Disease Control, the  Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), UNICEF, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness and Innovations.

Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Catherine Cooper, disclosed during the weekend.

Dr. Cooper said,” Awareness for the Mpox Vaccination campaign will commence later this month, and vaccination activities will begin in December 2025 to February 2026.

The Liberian Chief Medical Officer also disclosed that the nationwide vaccination exercise will target those eighteen years old and above.

Meanwhile, she has revealed that Liberia currently has one hundred forty-eight active cases of the Mpox virus.

The cases are being reported from the fifteen counties.

Dr. Cooper said the cases are under monitoring and clinical care in designated infectious disease hospitals, treatment isolation facilities, and home-based care settings.

The Chief Medical Officer said NPHIL and the Ministry of Health are working with relevant partners to enhance surveillance, laboratory testing, and case management measures to control the spread of the infection.

According to Dr. Cooper, out of ninety-eight health districts, sixty-five are being affected by the outbreak.

Dr. Cathrine Cooper disclosed during a joint news conference organized by NPHIL and the Ministry of Health over the weekend in Congo Town.
