MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Executive has submitted to the National Legislature a crucial bill to ban harmful cultural practices in Liberia.
When passed, the proposed legislation will protect the dignity, rights, and health of all, especially women, young girls, and children.
The bill, among other provisions, prohibits female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and other harmful traditional and cultural practices.
It also establishes penalties for violations, provides support and protection services for victims, and ensures robust monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
