Nat’l Commission on Disabilities Responds to Protest

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Commission on Disabilities (NCD) has responded to Tuesday’s protest by a group of visually impaired persons at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.

The protesters had accused the Commission’s Executive Director, Samuel Dean, of mismanaging funds intended to empower persons with disabilities.

However, speaking at a news conference in Monrovia on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Dean denied the allegations, saying that the funds were part of a government program to support empowerment projects for persons with disabilities.

He also accused some individuals within the disability community of opposing decentralization efforts and attempting to use the issue for personal gain.

Dean further alleged that some persons were involved in child trafficking under the cover of disability advocacy, though he didn’t point out any instance.

The Executive Director of the National Commission on Disabilities, at the same time, reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and promised continued support for persons with disabilities.
