MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken a stand against environmental negligence, imposing fines of over two hundred thousand U.S. dollars on three companies.
The companies include ArcelorMittal-Liberia, Monrovia Breweries Inc., and Elsin Transport and Logistics.
The Executive Director of the EPA, Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo, told reporters over the weekend that the action sends a clear message that environmental violations will no longer be tolerated.
Dr. Yarkpawolo warned that the EPA will enforce all environmental laws without fear or favor.
The EPA boss further warned that offenders could face tougher penalties, including suspension of operational permits.
Dr. Emmanuel Yarkpawolo also disclosed that the fines must be paid into the Revenue Account of the Government of Liberia within ten days.
