Pres. Boakai, Delegation Return Home…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai and delegation have returned home, following their participation in the Second Edition of the Lome Peace and Security Forum in Togo.

The President used the platform to disclose Liberia’s progress made so far in maintaining peace, security, and national reconciliation.

The event brought together political leaders, diplomats, experts, researchers, and civil society to discuss a common vision for addressing issues of insecurity and other challenges on the continent.

Members of the President’s delegation include Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, Minister of State Without Portfolio, Mamaka Bility, and Senate Committee Chair on Security, Momo Cyrus, among others.

Meanwhile, President Boakai has attributed Liberia’s journey towards peace to national ownership, reconciliation, community empowerment, and sustained partnerships.

He said,” Liberia, as a war-torn country, has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that peace is possible when a nation prioritizes dialogue over division and forgivingness over vengeance.

Speaking at the 2nd Edition of the Lome Peace and Security Forum in Togo, President Boakai spoke of efforts Liberia is making to maintain lasting peace.

The Liberian Leader highlighted the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), which, he believes, is key to confronting the country’s painful past.

As part of the TRC’s recommendation and in the spirit of national truth and reconciliation, President Boakai said,” The government carried out a symbolic reburial of former Presidents William R. Tolbert and Samuel Kanyon Doe”.

The President also disclosed Liberia’s plans toward the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court, an important step to ensure accountability for atrocities and economic crimes committed during the civil unrest.

At the same time, the Liberian Leader is urging African Leaders to invest particularly in inclusive political processes grounded in democratic norms and institutional integrity.

President Boakai said,” Legitimate and participatory governance is a critical tool to building trust, while reducing the risks of conflict on the continent.

The Liberian Leader also emphasized the promotion of economic inclusion through the expansion of essential services, especially for youth and women in Africa.

President Boakai made the statement recently at the 2nd Edition of the Lome Peace and Security Forum in Togo.

The Liberian Chief Executive, however, emphasized the importance of human security, defining it as not only the absence of war, but also the protection from poverty, disease, and environmental degradation.
