MALAYSIA-Quest International University (QIU) in Malaysia has denied allegations of having a satellite office or agent in Africa, calling such claims “false and misleading.”
The University’s Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Zita Mohd Fahmi, made the statement while speaking to West African journalists at the University on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
According to Professor Fahmi, QIU has no branch campus, learning center, satellite campus, or collaborators in Africa, and the University does not provide scholarships directly or through agents to African students.
She emphasized that all information about the University is available on its website and encouraged African students to apply directly to the University, rather than going through agents who may provide incorrect information.
The University’s administration has taken steps to preserve its integrity by providing clear information to the public on its website.
Currently, there are a few African students from countries such as Zimbabwe, Ghana, Nigeria, and Sudan studying at the University, although the administration noted a low enrollment rate of African students compared to students from Sri Lanka.
Professor Fahmi highlighted the need for more marketing efforts in Africa to encourage more students from the region to develop an interest in the University. She also noted that African students perform equally well as students from other regions, saying, “We have not seen any difference so far–I think they are all doing well.”
During a guided tour of the University, the Chief Operating Officer, Nicholas Goh, emphasized the importance of innovation in addressing real-world issues.
He encouraged students and staff to engage in projects that tackle pressing global challenges and supported cutting-edge labs.
