QNET: “We have chosen to stand up and fight a good fight against scams”

MALAYSIA-QNET has reiterated its commitment to taking legal action against individuals who use its brand to perpetuate fraudulent activities in Liberia and other parts of Africa.

In some West African countries, including Liberia, individuals have been impersonating QNET’s staff to scam unsuspecting victims.

This has projected the company negatively in the region, although several strategies and measures are being put in place to curtail the situation.

With this, officials from QNET have begun collaborating with stakeholders to find mutually beneficial solutions.

Speaking at a press conference in Penang, Malaysia, Group Chief Communications Officer Ramya Chandrasekaran described the situation as unacceptable, citing its negative impact on the company’s image.

“We have chosen to stand up and fight a good fight, that is how sincere we are, because how many companies want to deal with the type of allegations that we are dealing with?

Nobody wants that – the easy thing would be to say this is too much, we are going to walk away, instead, we have chosen to fight the fight.

We are implementing public and media education campaigns across the region.

We are bringing journalists from West Africa to our head office in Malaysia, so that they see who we are and go back to spread the news about the real QNET.

We are transparent and willing to collaborate with government and security agencies to address misconceptions about our company.”

Chandrasekaran declared. Chief Legal Officer for QNET, Nikhil Patel, noted that desperation and lack of opportunities often make young people susceptible to fraud, thus making them fall prey to scammers using the name of QNET.

He noted that to combat the menace, QNET has launched a public awareness campaign, provided training for distributors, and is currently collaborating with law enforcement in West Africa to clarify its mission and vision.

“We have realized that there is no one singular way of dealing with it – we have a public awareness campaign, billboards, social media campaign, Newspaper, radio, and a television public service announcement, and we are expanding our engagement.”

Patel emphasized that enhanced collaboration with government agencies and stakeholders in Liberia and other West African countries can help curb the situation. Recently, the Economic and Organized Crimes Authority of Ghana signed an MOU with QNET to publicly campaign to jointly combat the rising menace of job fraud and illegal migration across borders.

QNET is hoping for a similar collaborative breakthrough with government and security agencies in other West African countries.

Chandrasekaran reiterated, “QNET will never promise you an overseas travel opportunity, visa facilitation, or job placement abroad.

QNET will never require you to surrender your passport or go to a different country in order to do business. QNET business can be done from anywhere around the world.

QNET does not offer any kind of job that requires anyone to pay for any kind of job.” As it stands, QNET has set up a WhatsApp Compliance Hotline to receive and deal with all complaints to find redress.

Several individuals involved in the scam allegedly linking QNET are currently being pursued by QNET’s legal team. When caught, they will be subjected to justice to take its course.
