MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and advancing the values of press freedom, free speech, and democratic governance.
The government’s message was conveyed by the Press Secretary to President Joseph Boakai, Kula Fofana, at the official opening of the Press Union of Liberia’s (PUL) new Headquarters in Sinkor on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
Madam Fofana described the PUL’s new office as a symbol of resilience, growth, and the collective commitment of the media to building a Liberia where the freedom of the press is respected and the voice of journalists is protected.
The Presidential Press Secretary said,” For decades, the media continue to be an indispensable pillar of Liberia’s socio-economic and political journey, through moments of triumph and periods of turbulence”.
According to Madam Fofana, the PUL has consistently reminded citizens that democracy cannot thrive without a free and vibrant press, and as such, freedom of the press must be balanced with ethical responsibility, truth-telling, and professional conduct.
Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana, however, re-echoed the Liberian Government’s dedication to creating a society where journalists are not only free to report without fear, but are also supported in their professional development and welfare.
