MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Acting Board Chairman, Clarence Massaquoi, has outlined the achievements of the current Board of the LTA.
Mr. Massaquoi named the development of the Consumer Protection Regulation, Value Added Service Regulation, and the advancement of the Cyber Security Service Regulation as some of the major achievements.
He said, “The Commissioners, if confirmed, will take deliberate steps to galvanize resources to expand communication services to rural areas.”
The LTA Acting Board Chairman said, “The Board will institute measures to review and retrieve licenses of companies that have licenses, but have yet to start operation to create space for would-be investors in the sector.”
He made the statement on Monday, July 21, 2025, during a confirmation hearing which brought together five Commissioners-designate of the LTA.
Meanwhile, the LTA is expected to develop policies and regulations to encourage global access to social media monetization platforms.
Speaking at his confirmation hearing on Monday, LTA Acting Commissioner Patrick Honnah said,” If confirmed, I will work along with colleagues to engage Meta, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube to request Liberia’s inclusion in the official monetization countries.
Mr. Honnah added that the LTA will justify Liberia’s inclusion by presenting data showing the growing volume of content creation and audience engagement from Liberia, following the development of the policies.
He disclosed that the LTA will support the creation of a national digital creators’ program, a national initiative aimed at encouraging others to see social media as a source of income.
Patrick Honnah assured Liberians of the LTA Commissioners’ commitment to helping Liberia move confidently into a more inclusive digital future, if confirmed.
