MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Senate has confirmed Associate Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay as Liberia’s new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
It followed a report from the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights Claims and Petitions.
The Associate Justice, now Chief Justice, recently faced a Senate confirmation hearing, examining his qualifications and experience for the position.
Justice Gbeisay replaces Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, who met the constitutional requirement of seventy years.
Cllr. Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay served the Judiciary in several positions, including Relieving Judge and Associate Justice, among others.
At the same time, the Liberian Senate has launched an investigation into the outsourcing of the Liberia Traffic Management Services.
The Senate’s decision was triggered by a communication from its Committee Chair on Defense and Security, Momo Cyrus, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
In his communication to Plenary, Senator Cyrus argued that the move will allow the firm to gain unrestricted access to the biometric and logistical data of vehicle owners and operators nationwide.
Meanwhile, Plenary has mandated its Joint Committee on Judiciary, Defense, and Concession to cite the Minister of Justice and the Inspector General of Police to address the matter.
