Pres. Boakai, Delegation to Return Home Today

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai and delegation are expected to return home this evening after forming part of the US-African Leaders Summit in the United States.

The three-day strategic engagement centered on key areas of cooperation, including economic development, security, infrastructure, and democracy.

During the summit, President Boakai, along with four other African leaders, held fruitful bilateral discussions with their US counterpart, Donald Trump, at the White House in Washington, D.C.

At the meeting, President Boakai called for a stronger bilateral partnership with the US in the areas of investment and economic development opportunities.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Liberian Leader also held discussions with key US officials, including the Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau, and the Senior Advisor on African Affairs, Massad Boulous, among others.

In another development, President Boakai has constituted a National Steering Committee to implement the Biometric ID System throughout the country.

An Executive Mansion release said the process is aimed at transforming identity management and enhancing service delivery across the Liberian government, financial, and commercial sectors.

The release said the technology will strengthen national security, improve the integrity of voters’ registration, and enable secure, efficient access to public services across Liberia.

The release named National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods as Chairman of the Committee, and the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Foreign Affairs, the Central Bank of Liberia, and the National Identification Registry as members, respectively.

According to the release, the Biometric ID Card System will serve as a foundational identity platform to support Liberia’s vision for inclusive digital governance, financial inclusion, electoral integrity, and citizen empowerment.
