Education Minister Dr. Jarso Jallah has termed the reburial of former Presidents Tolbert and Doe as Liberia’s first official step toward national healing, reconciliation, and collective forgiveness.
Speaking at the National Healing and Reconciliation Program in Congo Town, Dr. Jallah welcomed a distinguished gathering of national leaders, civil society, and citizens to a solemn event aimed at confronting Liberia’s painful history.
As Chairperson of the Presidential Reburial Committee, she emphasized that the ceremony was not just symbolic, it was a deliberate act of reckoning with the past to pave the way for unity.
Referencing the play, “The Dilemma of a Ghost” by Ghanaian writer Ama Ata Aidoo, Dr. Jallah drew parallels between the play’s themes of cultural conflict and Liberia’s struggles with identity and belonging.
She urged Liberians to embrace transculturalism and empathy, stressing that reconciliation requires mutual understanding and appreciation of differences.
