Pres. Boakai Describes Former Pres. Tolbert’s Commemoration Act of Nat’l Conscience…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has described the memorialization of former President William R. Tolbert as an act of national conscience and a moment to restore dignity to the late President’s legacy.

President Boakai said, “The initiative also underscores the Liberian Government’s commitment to truth, justice, and national reconciliation.”

The Liberian Leader noted that the ceremony marked a pivotal time for all Liberians to acknowledge the historical wrongs of the past and forge a path for growth and peaceful co-existence.

According to the President, those wrongs committed in the past have not only left scars, but responsibility to turn sorrows into seeds of hope and to renew a sense of purpose.

The Liberian Leader was speaking at the memorial service in honor of former President William R. Tolbert on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Monrovia.
