Pres. Boakai Appoints University of Liberia’s 16th President

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has appointed Dr. Layli Maparyan as the 16th President of the University of Liberia.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the appointment follows the approval of the University’s Board of Trustees following the University’s Charter.

In his letter of appointment, the Liberian Leader and visitor to the University of Liberia, expressed confidence in Dr. Maparyan’s ability, integrity, and extensive experience, emphasizing his trust that she would demonstrate these qualities in service to the University and the nation.

The release noted that Dr. Maparyan, a distinguished academic and prolific scholar, is currently the Executive Director of the Wellesley Centers for Women and a Professor of Africana Studies at Wellesley College in Massachusetts, United States of America.

Dr. Maparyan holds a PhD in Psychology from Temple University and a Master of Science in Psychology from Penn State University.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maparyan is expected to officially assume her duties as president of the University of Liberia on January 10, the day of her induction.
