MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has disclosed Liberia’s qualification of acquiring a second compact grant from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

The First Compact Grant from the MCC was received during the leadership of former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

President Boakai said:” Liberia’s qualification is predicated upon the significant improvements made by the Liberian Government in the governance process of the country.”

He described the news as a giant achievement in the history of Liberia, which will further help to address the binding constraints to growth.

The Liberian Leader said it will also unlock the country’s untapped natural resources as the government remains keen on bettering the lives of the citizens through its developmental plans.

Meanwhile, the government is expected to release details on the exact amount of the funding and other relevant information on the MCC Second Compact in the coming days.

At the same time, President Boakai is urging all citizens to unite in the face of adversity.

The Liberian Chief Executive said:” Liberia, as a nation, is stronger when citizens from all sides unite in fostering national growth and development.”

He encouraged citizens to do away with vices that tend to derail the progress of the country and embrace the spirit of peaceful coexistence and national healing.

President Boakai’s comments were contained in a speech delivered in a “Special Address to the Nation” on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Executive Mansion.
