Liberian Gov. Reaffirms Condemnation of Niger’s Military Junta’s Clinch to Power

The Liberian Government has reaffirmed its strong condemnation of the unlawful and unconstitutional clinch to power by the Military Junta in Niger.

Foreign Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah termed such as an affront to the will of the people, who he said chose their leader in a democratic process.

Minister Kemayah was speaking on Thursday, August 10, 2023, in Abuja, Nigeria, during an ECOWAS Extraordinary Summit on the Socio-political situation in Niger.

Minister Kemayah also renewed calls for the immediate release of Niger’s ousted President, Mohammed Bazzoum.

The Liberian Foreign Minister, at the same time, called on the military to withdraw its troops to the barracks and returned the country to constitutional order without delay.

Minister Dee-Maxwell Kemayah said: “Liberia fully realigns itself with the position of ECOWAS, AU, UN, and other friendly nations in opposing any acts of undemocratic takeover of power.”
