UL Administration Plead For Dialogue Amid Standoff With ULFA

Monrovia, June 21, 2022 – University of Liberia Vice President for UL-Relations says the University President Dr. Julius Nelson was not aware of some faculty members who were double-dipping at the institution.

Double-dipping means someone who fully employed and taking salaries with two or more government’s institutions or functionaries.

Recently, the University Faculty Association, ULFA met and unanimously cast a vote of “no-confidence” in Dr. Nelson for allegedly encouraging the act and being insensitive to the plights of the faculty.

But responding, UL Vice President Cllr. Noris Tweah said vote of no-confidence was unfair against the UL President, because he did not know that 72 faculty members were double-dipping.

He however called on the aggrieved faculty to return to dialogue with the University to remedy to the current standoff for the greater interest of the students for whom the institution was established.

According to Cllr. Tweah, plans are underway to amicably resolve the double-dipping situation of the 72-faculty members involved.

Cllr. Tweah then assured the public that classes will resume on the UL campuses on June 27 as earlier announced by Dr. Nelson.

Meanwhile, UL Vice President for Institutional Development, Prof. Weade Kobbah Boley has disclosed that about seventy-nine members of the UL-faculty are abroad on scholarship.

Prof. Kobah-Boley said they pursuing Masters and PHD Degrees in different academic areas to impact the UL upon their return.

She said the scholarships were made possible through partnership between the UL and other Universities and non-academic institutions across the World.

Prof. Kobbah Boley said the 79-faculty will be returning within two to three years and immediately absorbed in the University.
