Justice Ministry transfers murder case of motorcyclist Nyumah to Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Justice Ministry has transferred the case involving the killing of motorcyclist Mordecial Nyumah in Maryland County to the 7th judicial circuit court in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

The Ministry has also transferred thirty-seven people linked to the recent violence and death of the motorcyclist to the Zwedru Correction Place in Grand Gedeh County.

Assistant Justice Minister for litigation, Wesseh A. Wesseh, said:” The case and the thirty-seven suspects were moved to Zwedru for the sake of transparency and fair justice.

Minister Wesseh asserted that if the case is heard in Maryland County, it could be prejudiced, noting that Grand Gedeh County is a neutral ground for hearing the case.

The Assistant Justice Minister is also urging citizens to always use the rule of law to address issues, rather than taking matters into their own hands.

Meanwhile, the Maryland County Legislative Caucus has maintained its stance that the law should take its course in the recent murder and violence in the county.

It followed an appeal from some citizens of the County asking the caucus to push for the pardon of over thirty- three persons arrested, after the violence and destruction of properties in Harper and Pleebo Cities.

Speaking in an ELBC interview Tuesday, April 27, 2021, the Chairman of the Caucus, Representative Isaac Roland, said: “The matter is with the Justice System and has nothing to do with political leaders from the county.”

Representative Roland said the Justice Ministry should be allowed to do its work void of political interference.

According to him, those who are responsible for the murder and the subsequent violence and destruction of properties must face the law, to prove their innocence.
