Ruling Party Recalls Government Officials from Campaign Committees

Monrovia, Liberia -The Chairman of the Coalition for Democratic Change, Mulbah K. Morlu, has withdrawn the nominations of all those covered by the relevant provisions of the code of conduct, but were recently appointed to the campaign committees of the party.

A CDC statement said the decision, which was taken with the full consent of the Party’s Governing Council, is intended to sustain the rule-of-law culture in the country ahead of the much anticipated midterm Senatorial Election.

The appointment of several top ranking Government officials on CDC Campaign Committees has been widely criticized, with many citing violation of the Code of Conduct.

Top officials including Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, Gender Minister Williametta Saydee Tarr, EPA Executive Director Wilson Tarpeh, Deputy Finance Minister for Fiscal Affairs Samora Wolokollie and National Port Authority Managing Director Bill Tweahway were recently named by the Coalition for Democratic Change on various campaign committees for the pending mid-term Senatorial elections.

But Chairman Morlu however said the decision doesn’t bar any Liberian from freely associating with the party’s political activities as guaranteed by the constitution of Liberia.

Meanwhile the CDC said there are ongoing consultations on a new list of top partisans to spearhead the ruling party campaign ahead of the December Polls.
