Pres. Weah has no intention to contest for a third term-Minister McGill

PAYNESVILL, MONTSERRADO COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Executive Mansion has clarified that President George Weah has no intention to contest for a third term.

Recently, Senator Prince Johnson told a church congregation that the President will contest for a third term, if the reduction of tenure proposition is passed during the referendum.

But addressing the Executive Mansion weekly press briefing Tuesday, October 27, 2020, in Paynesville, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel McGill, said:” President Weah will seek a second term and serve eleven years, if that proposition is passed.”

Minister McGill said:” The Liberian Leader is a democratic-abiding leader who has no intention to breach the Liberian Constitution.”

According to him, President Weah proposed the reduction in the tenure of elected officials, including the Presidency, to leave office early.

In another development, the Government of Liberia has disclosed plans to launch a free tuition program for secondary public schools across the Country.

Minister McGill said:” The program will enable students who cannot afford private schools tuition fees to enroll at public schools.”

He said President Weah is keened to leave a legacy of increased support to education after his Presidency.

According to him, the free tuition program at public schools costs Government millions of United States Dollars.

Meanwhile, Minister McGill has challenged the opposition to name any campaign promise President Weah has failed to fulfill.
