Supreme Court Justice cites Collaborating Political Parties, Nat’l Elections Com., Justice Ministry to conference

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Justice in Chambers, at the Supreme Court of Liberia, has cited the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), the National Elections Commission and the Ministry of Justice for a conference this Friday, October 2.

The conference is in connection with the CPP’s petition to compel respondent to perform an official duty consistent with law.

Associate Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh’s September 29, 2020 citation is demanding the appearance of all parties’ lawyers for conference beginning 1:00 PM, at the Temple of Justice.

ELBC Judicial Reporter revealed that Friday’s conference will determine whether the Justice in Chambers will grant or decline to issue the writ, as prayed for by the CPP’s lawyers.

On September 25, 2020, Unity Party, Alternative National Congress, Liberty Party and the All Liberia Party’s lawyers, filed a 29-count application to the High Court, against the National Elections Commission to clean the Voters’ Roll Update.

In another Judicial development, State Prosecutors have taken exception to the ruling of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Margibi County, after it denied a Recusal Motion.

Recently State Prosecutors filed a Recusal Motion against Judge Mardea Chenoweth in suspect Oliver Dillon’s murder trial in the County.

But in her charge Tuesday, September 29.2020, Judge Chenoweth said:” State lawyers’ Exit Motion lacks the legal requirements as provided by the Judicial Canon-28 for judges.”

ELBC Judicial Reporter further said the Court’s decision has set the stage for suspect Dillon’s prosecution pending notice of assignment.

Prior to the Court’s action, State lawyers’ application accused Judge Chenoweth of siding with the Defendant, saying that her presence in the trial will damage their chances.

Suspect Oliver Dillon was arrested in 2019 and indicted in the same year for allegedly killing one Emmanuel Koffa in Gardnerville, outside Monrovia.
