Lutheran Development Service, partners break grounds for opening the Ben Stream as emergency response project in Margibi County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA -The Lutheran Development Service (LDS) and the Act Liberia Forum Monday broke grounds for opening the Ben Stream as emergency response to flood affected communities in Margibi County.

The twenty-four thousand United States Dollar project is funded by ACT Alliance Geneva, implemented by the LDS and the Act Liberia Forum and will give relieve to thousands of flood-affected community residents in Margibi County.

Speaking Monday, during the groundbreaking ceremony, the Interim Executive Director of the Lutheran Development Service, Dellnot Gardner, said the project is part of their development and humanitarian initiative for the needy.

Madam Gardner lauded partners for providing the funding and called on the local beneficiaries to take ownership of the project and ensure proper maintenance upon completion.

Making remarks, Margibi County District-Number 4 Representative, Ben Fofana, paid tribute to LDS, Act Alliance and other partners for the initiative, terming it as a relief to the people of the County and called on national government to make some interventions in alleviating the issue of flooding in the County.

Also speaking at the Ceremony, on behalf of the flood-affected Communities, the Chairperson of the Ben Stream      Disaster Management Committee, Benedict Sackie, said they embrace the initiative and pledged their full support to the project, aimed at bringing relief to the residents.

The Groundbreaking pro0gram was graced by several government officials of Margibi County, including the County Superintendent, Jerry Varnie, Kakata City Mayor, Emmanuel Goll, Lutheran Church Bishop, Jensen Seyenkolo, a representative of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Liberian National Police, among others.
