MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Traffic Management Incorporated (LTMI) has denied reports linking it to the issuance of permanent substandard license plates to drivers across the country.
But LTMI Managing Director, Fadi Awaida, has clarified that contrary to reports, it had only issued temporary aluminum license plates in stock in recent months.
Awaida said,” Following the arrival of the original and durable plates, the temporary plates were immediately retrieved and replaced”.
He told ELBC on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, that the temporary plates were issued to drivers and vehicle owners upon payment to prevent confrontation with traffic officers in the field.
Awaida called on its accusers to double-check their information with LMTI Authorities before publication and warned against spreading misinformation to the public.
At the same time, Brewerville City is expected to benefit from the first sub-office of the LMTI. According to Awaida, the Brewerville office is expected to be established in the coming months.
Awaida noted that the concession agreement mandates the company to extend its coverage across the country within three years.
He added that the expansion is aimed at enabling Liberians in rural areas to obtain driver’s license plates without traveling long distances, thereby reducing their financial burden on transportation.
The LMTI Managing Director further disclosed that the nationwide expansion process will create jobs for thousands of Liberians.
