MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia says it remains committed to restoring zonal discipline, enforcing building standards, and planning across the country.
The government says the move will reduce the unregulated construction of structures and buildings in alleyways and prevent future avoidable disasters.
President Joseph Boakai committed on behalf of the government during a cabinet meeting in Monrovia on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
President Boakai reiterated the government’s determination to set standards to ensure that citizens comply with the mandate in safeguarding their properties in accordance with the law.
According to him, it is high time that Liberians begin to take practical steps aimed at building a better future envisioned by all.
He reiterated the government’s steadfast dedication to improving citizens’ living standards through measurable outcomes.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has called for increased institutional accountability across all sectors of government.
President Boakai said,” The government was elected on the mandate of rewriting the wrong, and as such, the mandate comes with accountability through responsibility”.
He, however, lauded the Ministers of Health, Education, and Local Government for instituting measures to remove ghost names from the national payroll.
The Liberian Leader described their actions as being in the right direction and in the interests of all Liberians.
President Boakai cautioned those ministers to perform their duties in line with the ARREST Agenda and in the spirit of transparency and honesty.
At the same time, President Boakai has asked that recent fees announced by the National Tourism Authority (LNTA) be placed on hold pending further consultation.
President Boakai said,” While the intent of the LNTA is welcoming, there is a need to review the figures and see what impact such fees will have on the people”.
According to the Liberian Leader, further review will further determine how realistic the figures are given current economic realities.
The meeting also focused on road infrastructure development, governance reforms, management, and the enforcement of regulatory standards.
