MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A top Liberian Public Health Expert has been appointed as Director of Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response at the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Dr. Tolbert Nyenswah is among ten health public experts from Africa appointed to senior-level positions at the Africa CDC, aimed at advancing health security, system strengthening, and innovation on the continent.
The appointment of Dr. Nyenswah and others is intended to reinforce the institution’s capacity to deliver on its mandate and accelerate implementation of the African health security and sovereignty agenda.
According to the Africa CDC, these appointments will also strengthen priority areas in immunization, pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, as well as achieve regional coordination, maternal and child health, and digital transformation.
Dr. Tolbert Nyenswah successfully led Liberia’s Ebola response and later served as the founding Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), bringing deep expertise in emergency management, surveillance, and resilient health systems.
