MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has validated a national framework aimed at improving access to clean cooking energy.
The initiative is being led by the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
According to a Mines and Energy release, the validation, which took place during a national workshop held in Monrovia, brought together stakeholders from government, civil society, and the private sector.
The framework supports the country’s National Energy Policy and climate commitments.
The release noted that participants reviewed a draft Action Document designed to guide the country’s transition to cleaner cooking solutions.
The move is part of efforts to improve household energy access, and is also aimed at reducing environmental and health risks.
Meanwhile, the government says the validated document will guide the development of a national clean cooking strategy.
At the same time, Stakeholders have highlighted the benefits of adopting clean cooking technologies in Liberia.
Participants said modern cooking solutions will reduce exposure to harmful smoke, and this move by the Ministry of Mines and Energy is expected to improve public health.
They also noted that clean cooking technologies will empower women and girls, and they will reduce the burden of collecting fuel.
The Stakeholders also said the initiative will help reduce deforestation in the Country.
Meanwhile, Participants are encouraging the use of improved cook-stoves and alternative energy sources.
