MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has announced activities leading to the official commissioning of its 20 megawatt Solar Farm.
The solar plant is being constructed at the Mount Coffee Hydro Plant in Rural Montserrado County.
Deputy Information Minister for Press and Public Affairs, Daniel Sando, at a press briefing on Thursday, March 19, 2026, said,” The testing of the solar plant was done last week with the injection of power into the national grid”.
According to Deputy Minister Sando, following the testing process, it is now clear that the official commissioning is slated for mid-April 2026.
Deputy Minister Daniel Sando noted that the commissioning of the 20-megawatt solar plant will expand electricity access across the country.
At the same time, the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, hosted fifty students and teachers from eight schools for a renewable energy excursion at the Mount Coffee Hydropower Plant.
The participants engaged in detailed learning sessions on how installations at the facility contribute to energy generation, promote greener communities, and support climate change mitigation efforts.
The initiative was funded by the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa.
The tour also aimed at empowering the next generation of climate champions in shaping a greener and more sustainable future for Liberia Energy Sector.
