MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Lawyer representing the former National Security Advisor to former President George Weah, and one of the defendants in the ongoing economic sabotage trial at Criminal Court C, Jefferson Karmoh, has asked for a separate and severance trial in the matter.
Cllr. Mamee Gongbah, in a three-count motion, said the defendants are not the same, adding that in the indictment, each defendant’s alleged role is distinct, and trying with him, the principal defendant, Samuel Tweah, is not the same.
Cllr. Gongbah further stated that Section 5-6 of the severance and separate trial states that, to further convenience and avoid prejudice, a court may order the severance of claims or issues, or the court may order the trial of any claim or issue before the trial of other claims or issues.
It further said jurisdiction unaffected by severance, if severance is ordered, the court shall retain jurisdiction of all parties and or all severance claims.
The former National Security Advisor to former President, Jefferson Karmoh, former Finance and Development Planning Minister, Samuel Tweah, and former Solicitor General, Cllr. Nyenati Tuan, former Director General of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Stanley Ford, and the former Financial Intelligence Unit Comptroller, Moses Cooper, are on trial for multiple crimes.
They have been charged for economic sabotage, theft of property, money laundering, misuse of public funds, illegal disbursement and expenditure of public money, among others.
Meanwhile, the case has been assigned for Friday, March 20, 2026, at the Temple of Justice.
