MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia, Chair of the African Group at the United Nations, has called for a comprehensive and inclusive reform of the UN.
The call was championed by President Joseph Boakai at a high-level Breakfast Consultation on the future of the UN and the election of the next Secretary General in Ethiopia on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
President Boakai emphasized that the future of the UN must be shaped by all of its members, especially those who represent its future.
The Liberian Head of State noted that the UN requires a restoration of global trust and a renewed focus on tangible delivery.
With fifty-four nations accounting for more than a quarter of the UN’s membership, President Boakai said,” The continent aims to be an architect of the UN’s next chapter.
According to him, the goal is not merely to have a seat at the table, but to help rebuild the table itself, ensuring that the UN is fit for purpose and truly representative of the world it serves.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has acknowledged the important and sustained work of the African Union (AU) Committee of Ten, the C-Ten.
According to the Liberian Leader, the work of the C-Ten reminds African leaders that the continent’s engagement with the UN must be strategic, collective, and forward-looking.
He said,” The C-Ten has provided Africa with a platform for principled engagement on the UN reform and helped ensure African perspectives remain present in discussions on institutional renewal, effectiveness, and fairness across the UN system”.
