MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has announced a yearly recruitment of more than six hundred personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) from 2026 to 2029.
The decision, according to President Boakai, is part of ongoing efforts to beef up the strength of the Army.
According to the Liberian Leader, the recruitment drive is not just about numbers but repositioning a force that reflects the diversity, resilience, and aspirations of the Liberian people.
President Boakai also spoke of several measures undertaken by the Government of Liberia to promote the dignity and integrity of the AFL.
Among those measures are the renovation of military barracks in Margibi and Nimba Counties, and the restoration of other barracks in Bomi and Maryland Counties.
The President believes that these efforts are also intended to decongest other military barracks and improve a sense of belonging for personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Meanwhile, President Boakai has praised personnel of the Army for their unwavering commitment to defending the sovereignty and democracy of Liberia.
President Boakai said,” The Army has also demonstrated absolute loyalty, discipline, and commitment to the promotion of regional cooperation and collective security”.
The Liberian Leader was speaking at the 69th Armed Forces Day celebrations at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) on Wednesday, February 11, in Monrovia.
The Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia described the Force as a pillar of stability and national honor.
President Joseph Boakai also renewed the government’s commitment to providing the necessary financial and logistical support for the effective operations of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
In another development, the AFL has recognized several individuals and military personnel for their exemplary service to the region and Liberia’s peacekeeping efforts.
They are the Minister of Defense of the Ivory Coast, Tene Birahima Outtara, Major General Paula Rogers of the Michigan National Guard, and Brigadier General Mohammed Usman of the Nigerian Army.
Others are Col. Eric Akafia of the Ghanaian Army, Lt. Col. Usufu Sankoh of the Sierra Leonean Army, and David Vinton, a distinguished Liberian Banker and Economist.
The AFL, in separate citations, described their respective contributions to international peace and regional stability as a testament to their outstanding dedication to regional cooperation and solidarity.
