MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Grand Gedeh County District One Representative Jeremiah Sokan has welcomed the Government of Liberia’s decision to reactivate the Putu Mining Concession.
A week before President Joseph Boakai’s Annual Message, during a town hall meeting with Vice President Jeremiah Koung in Grand Gedeh County, Rep. Sokan called for the reactivation of the Putu Concession.
In his Annual Message, President Boakai announced that the Government has commenced the process of reactivating the Putu Iron Ore Mine.
In an interview on ELBC’s ‘Super Morning Show’ on Monday, February 2, 2026, Rep. Sokan described the move by the President as practical to create jobs for the citizens of the county.
He said,” The President’s announcement was a demonstration of leadership and love for his people”.
Meanwhile, Rep. Sokan said,” The reburying of former President Samuel Kanyon Doe has left an indelible mark on the minds of the people of Grand Gedeh”.
At the same time, the Superintendent of Grand Gedeh County, Alex Grant, and Senator Yayah Nimely have resolved their longstanding disagreements in the county.
During the Vice President’s visit to the county, Senator Nimely publicly called for the dismissal of Superintendent Grant, accusing him of gross disrespect, taking unilateral decisions, and being unable to unite the country.
Superintendent Grant stated that the peace was brokered by Rep. Marie Johnson of District Two, Grand Gedeh County.
According to him, Senator Yayah Nimely apologized for his public outburst during the Vice President’s visit, while he, on the other hand, apologized for administrative mistakes made in the past.
