Members of House of Rep. Split over Proposed Resolution to Create Additional Seats…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Members of the House of Representatives are divided over a proposed resolution seeking to create additional seats in the National Legislature.

Some lawmakers argued that the move is untimely, warning it would place added strain on the country’s already limited fiscal space.

Others, however, contended that expanding the National Legislature is necessary to ensure equal representation and full adherence to constitutional provisions.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Koon, has constituted a specialized committee to conduct public hearings and nationwide consultations on the proposal.

Speaker Koon said,” Engaging citizens is essential to promoting transparency, inclusiveness, and national ownership of the process”.

If adopted, the resolution would increase the number of seats in the House of Representatives from its current seventy-three to eighty-seven
