Info Minister Piah Defends Gov.’s Human Rights Records…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah has strongly defended the government’s human rights records against the opposition’s allegation of human rights violations.

According to Minister Piah, the government has exhibited the highest degree of tolerance and respect for the rule of law and the administration of justice.

He reminded Liberians about reports of human rights violations and allegations of rampant corruption that led to international sanctions on past government officials.

Minister Jerolinmek Piah said,” Unlike the past government, no individuals have been arbitrarily chased and locked behind bars without the justice system”.

The Minister of Information promised the government’s commitment to the rule of law, a key part of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).

At the same time, Information Minister Piah has recounted significant strides in the Agriculture Sector.

According to him, the last two years have seen a forty-percent decrease in the overall importation of rice on the Liberian market.

In an interview on ELBC’s “Super Morning Show” on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the information minister also spoke of improvements in the production of local rice and cassava.

He attributed the increase in local rice and cassava production to the government’s continuous investment in agriculture.

Minister Jerolinmek Piah assured that there will be no shortage of rice while revealing the coming of huge farming tools to boost agricultural production.

The Information boss said a South Korean company, MakeGroup, will shortly construct the Country’s first starch-processing factory, adding that the move will create hundreds of jobs for Liberians, ensuring efficiency and productivity.

He said farmers and local producers of cassava and other inputs will now benefit from expanded markets and increased demand.

Minister Piah also added that the decision to construct a starch processing factory is driven by Liberia’s vast potential in the raw materials required for production.

The information minister disclosed that the proposed investment package will include the development of Agro-processing facilities, cold storage, among others, and these initiatives are in line with Liberia’s National Agriculture Development Plan.
