MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Supreme Court of Liberia has fined six lawyers from the legal team representing former Finance Minister and four others three hundred US Dollars each, for filing their legal brief on the day of the re-argument proceedings.
The Court warned that the amount be paid in the revenue of the government of Liberia within seventy hours, with Chief Justice Yamie Gbeisay’s warning them of the risk of being arrested if they failed to meet the ultimatum.
The re-argument before the Court on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, proffered by Samuel Tweah’s Legal Team argued that their clients’ action was based on national security, and as such, they are immune from prosecution, and acted under the direct instruction of former President George Weah.
They argued that their clients were wrongfully implicated for allegedly stealing over six million US dollars and billions of Liberian dollars.
The Supreme Court reminded them of a similar case involving the former Defense Minister, Brownie Samukai, adding that the case should have been raised at the lower court, where a jury will hear the facts, and if not satisfied, they can take an appeal to the Supreme Court.
