Gov. of Liberia Expands Rice Cultivation in 2025

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has expanded rice cultivation by at least six thousand hectares in 2025, as part of efforts to reduce the importation of Liberia’s staple food.

According to Minister of Information, Jerolinmek Piah, the government also expanded cocoa cultivation by thirteen thousand hectares.

The information minister told the MICAT Regular Press Briefing on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Monrovia, that these increments in local food production have improved yields and farmers’ income in Liberia.

He noted that the government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, rehabilitated several farm-to-market roads across the country to improve productivity.

Meanwhile, Minister Piah has reaffirmed the Liberian Government’s strong determination to cultivate more local food for the country.
