“Train ELBC Reporters in Artificial Intelligence (AL)…”- Local Voices-Liberia Executive Director

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Executive Director of Local Voices-Liberia is calling for the training of reporters of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Local Voices-Liberia is a network of Liberian journalists established in 2015 to counter the spread of misinformation.

Atty. Alpha Senkpeni said,” Training in the use of AI will equip the journalists of the State-owned media entity to ensure credibility, accuracy, and integrity in their reportage”.

Atty. Senkpeni added that such an endeavor will also enhance the capacities of reporters of LBS to think ahead and make them more marketable.

Speaking over the weekend at the first annual retreat of the News Department of LBS, he emphasized the significance of creativity to the task of journalists at the State Radio.

The Local-Voices-Liberia Executive Director also warned staffers of News Department staff that refusing to adopt standard AI tools could negatively affect their journalistic values.

Atty. Sekpeni, at the same time, urged the reporters to work collectively and avoid seeking personal glory.

Meanwhile, LBS News Director, Varflay Kamara has outlined plans to strengthen the professional and ethical standards of the News Department in 2026.

Director Kamera said the focus will be on reviewing the performance of the news department and improving coordination among staffers.

According to Mr. Kamera, the plan will also include using departmental retreats as platforms to assess progress and set clear operational goals.

The LBS News Director also underscored Unity and commitment as critical pillars to improving the output of the newsroom.

He expressed confidence that LBS management will continue supporting initiatives crucial to enhancing the quality of the System’s news content.

Making special remarks, LBS Deputy Director General for Media Services, Hassan Kiawu, thanked staff of the news department for their commitment to getting the job done.

Mr. Kiawu described the retreat as a move in the right direction, highlighting that the gathering helped in recognizing individual and collective team spirit and improvements.

The LBS Deputy Director General thanked News Director Varflay for his inspiration since assuming the leadership of the newsroom, while praising the quality of the news.

He also commended the event committee headed by reporter Sampson David, as well as reporter Joetta Kulah-Yeahgar and her team, for pulling it off.

Mr. Kiawu expressed hope that in 2026, the team will scale its potential to new heights, including career growth and development.
