Several Senators Join WASH Advocacy Push

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Several members of the Liberian Senate have pledged commitment to heightened advocacy for improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services for citizens.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, senators Thomas Nimley Yayah of Grand Gedeh, Simeon Taylor of Grand Cape Mount, Samuel Kogar of Nimba, and Bill Tweahway of River Cess committed by signing a WASH pledge card at the Farmington Hotel in Margibi County.

The signing of the WASH pledge card coincided with a high-level WASH Financing and Partnership Dialogue.

The WASH pledge card, a document of WASH sector actors under the Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) program, is to garner state actors’ commitment to ensure availability, sustainable management, and improve WASH services for citizens.

By signing the pledge card, the four senators automatically became members of the WASH Legislative Caucus, a group of like-minded lawmakers pushing for an improved WASH sector.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Gbarpolu County Senator, Amara Konneh, also signed the WASH pledge card, bringing the membership of the WASH Legislative Caucus to 52 lawmakers.

Meanwhile, senators Thomas Nimley Yayah of Grand Gedeh, Simeon Taylor of Grand Cape Mount, Samuel Kogar of Nimba, and Bill Tweahway of River Cess have assured of advocating proper budget allocation for the WASH sector.

The senators acknowledged the need for improved WASH services for citizens, challenges faced by the WASH sector, and the need for the sector to be supported through the national budget.

Wednesday’s High-level WASH Financing and Partnership Dialogue at the Farmington Hotel, hosted by the WASH Legislative Caucus Secretariat and partners, brought together lawmakers, officials of WaterAid Liberia, UNICEF, the WASH Commission, and other stakeholders.

In a presentation earlier, the WASH actors showcased challenges faced by the WASH sector, the need for investment, especially through the national budget, and the potential of the WASH sector for the health and well-being of citizens
